January 2010

Dear Counselors, teachers and Staff:

As you may know, P.A.R.K. is an after-school tutoring and homework assistance program designed to help teachers, parents, and students by eliminating barriers to education.  Over the past fourteen years P.A.R.K. has been working with the LRSD to develop a system that aids students in improving school performance and give teachers and parents additional tools and assistance when working with students.

We are currently recruiting students for the 2010 enrollment class.  As teachers and counselors you are our best resources for selecting students into our program.  We are asking you (teachers and counselors) to nominate students that you feel can benefit from the P.A.R.K. program.

P.A.R.K. is designed to help students who have shown academic potential, but may lack motivation, direction or support.  We are looking for 7th grade students who have between a 1.5–2.5 G.P.A. either 1st or 2nd 9 weeks in the core subjects (please attach copy of report card with nomination) and are willing to make a five-year commitment to the program.

Please carefully consider the students you nominate, complete the enclosed nomination form and place it in the P.A.R.K. mailbox located in the school mailbox area or Fax to the number below.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to give me a call.

Sincerely,

Mancel Linton

Attention Parents!

This year each student at FHMS is expected to read 25 books.  The purpose of this is to expand the vocabulary of students, to help your child become a fluent reader, and to instill in your child a love of reading.

Please help your child by providing books on their level in the home.

This is a reward’s based program.  Students will receive an incentive/reward at 6, 12, 18 and then 25 books.

A brochure is being sent home by your child in regard to this program.

This message comes from our esteemed Media Specialist, Ken Sutton. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call him at 447-2706, or email.
